InSinkErator Evolution Excel is an Excel -ent choice for folks looking for a garbage disposal that is very powerful and very quiet. This model is the right choice if you have an open concept home, if you do a lot of in-kitchen entertaining, or if you have a main bedroom on the main floor. Our family and home check all these boxes. AND... in our family, the one who does the dishes is a night owl.We used to have a Waste King, bought here on Amazon ( https://amzn.to/425y80L ). It was noisy enough to wake up sleepers in the main bedroom on a regular basis. Other issues with the Waste King were an occasional jam, as well as needing a lot of time to grind up things like table scraps that can't be composted. Also, really useful accessories, like the Danco Disposal Genie ( https://amzn.to/3NuvSMq ) didn't fit the Waste King. So, when our Wast King started leaking after 7 years of use, we wanted to upgrade.We checked the usual review sites, and after weeding out the usual nonsense, it seemed pretty consistent that the InSinkErator Evolution Excel was at the top of the list. Reasons include:- The quietest disposer on the market- Powerful 1 HP motor- Pretty consistent positive reviews from real people (like us).- Made in USA- Reliable support and serviceWe then searched around online for the best price. BE CAREFUL! We used Google Shop to search "InSinkErator Evolution Excel" and Google showed what seemed like really good prices... EXCEPT they were for a lower grade model called the Evolution Prestige that looks almost identical. (Besides being quieter, the Evolution Excel has a self-unjamming feature that changes the direction of the grinding motor.) We were fooled at first, and bought an "InSinkErator Evolution" at Lowes for in-store pickup, only to find it was the Prestige model, not the Excel. (Lowes made it easy to cancel our order. Thanks, Lowes!)It turns out that Amazon offered the best price and availability for the Evolution Excel and the accessories.Amazon delivered the Evolution Excel next-day. It took about 60 minutes to remove the old disposer and install the Evolution Excel. This is a job you can DIY if you are reasonably handy. (For example, if you can replace an electrical outlet and change the drain under a sink, you can do this job.) There are a couple of very good YouTube videos to show you what's involved. The instructions that InSinkErator provides are really clear.
